A Five Minute Service Project

Another excellent post by Ben Jenkins.

I love serving the Lord. I get so much more out of it than I put in. I have been so blessed in so many ways. As a result I often feel compelled to serve more and more. In my daily prayers I ask Heavenly Father to bless me with opportunities to serve. I ask him to make me aware of the needs of others and to give me the courage to serve them.

The problem that I often run into in my desire is that I lead a busy life. I am a husband, a father of two young children, a PhD student, a university instructor, an apartment manager, a professional consultant, a haberdasher, a stake executive clerk, a stake technology specialist, a member missionary, and whatever else people want or need me to be. Yet I want to do more.

As I was looking for something on my favorite website (lds.org) I came across what is called Helping in the Vineyard. I watched the videos and was elated to find little things that I can do here and there in between the gaps of time. Most activities take only 5 minutes! The effects of these activities are beyond me to understand. Today for example I took 5 minutes and rated my church house on Google maps and wrote a review describing why I like going there every week. How brilliant is this?! As more people Google search their church house and rank it and leave a comment then the more likely it is to surface in a search for someone who is looking for a church. What a blessing search engine optimization is in this modern day!

I am so happy that the Lord is hastening his work in so many neat ways. All so that His children can know Him and have all the blessings He can give them. I hope that with 5 minutes a day that at least one person can know the happiness that I know. If you have taken the time to read this then you have 5 more minutes to serve someone. Go to Vineyard, log in, and find something that works for you.
